How to Sign Up for ID.me:
1. To create an ID.me account, go to the registration page https://api.id.me/en/registration/new Then input a valid email address, select a password, agree to ID.me's terms and conditions and privacy policy by ticking the checkbox, and finally click "Create account".
2. After receiving an email from ID.me, hit the confirmation button in the email to verify your email address, then return to your browser. The page will automatically proceed to the next step.
How to Secure your ID.me Account:
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is an added layer of security for your account. MFA requires a unique passcode, delivered via text message or mobile app, every time you log in. This ensures that even if someone obtains your username and password, they cannot access your account without your device.
1. Select your preferred MFA option. You can receive the passcode through a text message or phone call, or opt for a phone app or keyfob among the other available options.
2. The majority of users opt for a passcode sent to their phone. Simply enter your phone number and then retrieve the 6-digit passcode from your text messages or by answering the call.
3. On the browser, input the 6-digit passcode and hit "Continue"
4. Generating and saving a recovery code is optional. This code provides access to your account in case you don't have the phone or device used for MFA setup.
Verify your Identity:
By completing this process, you will also be able to access other sites that use ID.me as a sign-in option.
Identity verification is straightforward and involves answering a few questions related to your credit history or uploading a picture of your government-issued ID. By verifying your identity through ID.me, the agency ensures that only you and not someone impersonating you can access your account. You may choose between answering credit history questions or uploading a photo of your government ID card.
Option 1: Submit Government ID Photos
You can either upload existing photos or provide a cell phone number for picture taking. If you opt for the latter, ID.me will send you a secure link that opens your phone's camera.
Please follow the instructions and take clear photos of your ID (front and back for driver's license, state ID, or passport card). After you are satisfied with the photos, click "Continue" and go back to the browser.
Next, you will be prompted to enter your Social Security Number.
Option 2: Verify Identity through Credit History
First, you will be asked to provide personal information, including your Social Security Number. Then, you will be given multiple-choice questions. Once you have selected your answers, click "Continue."
Please note that this process does not result in a credit inquiry.
Confirm and Grant Authorization:
To complete the process, confirm that your information is accurate and authorize ID.me to securely share your identity verification information with the agency. ID.me will never share your information without your explicit permission.
1. Review your information to ensure its accuracy. If it's correct, check the box confirming its accuracy and click "Continue". If not, use the edit function to make changes.
2. Once you have confirmed your information, a message will appear indicating that your identity has been verified. By clicking "Allow and Continue", ID.me will transmit your information to the agency and grant you access to your account.
How to Sign In to ID.me:
1. Access the ID.me login page: https://api.id.me/en/session/new
2. Input your email and password in the designated fields.
3. Choose "Sign in."
4. If required, complete the multi-factor authentication process to approve your login, otherwise skip this step.
In case you encounter difficulties with logging in, you might need to change or reset your ID.me password.
